Shalom After School is Newton’s latest, most exciting addition to the city’s vast network of after school programs. Dedicated to lending guidance to the socio-emotional, academic, and creative needs of each child we serve through Jewish-inspired values and practices, our program is designed to cultivating a safe, fun, and enriching environment where children of all backgrounds and faiths feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow.

Our Philosophy
We believe in all children’s ability to thrive when they feel a strong sense of belonging, trust, and purpose. At Shalom After School, learning extends beyond homework time, strict rules, and oppressive adult supervision. It happens through meaningful relationships, hands-on exploration, creativity, free play, and—most important—the autonomy to freely and fearlessly express themselves with the aid of our talented team of caregivers.
While we celebrate each child’s individuality by designing personally tailored activities, paired with frequent one-on-one check-ins between students and educators, we are strong believers in the unifying power of community, or kehillah. Nothing fosters empathy, collaboration, and respect for others like bringing children together. The success and resilience of Judaism itself, like many faiths, hinges on the willingness of others to gather collectively, elevating our friends and helping them reach their full potential in the process. At Shalom After School, we aspire above all else to honor that tradition.
Ultimately, our approach is centered around helping children build the social-emotional intelligence, independence, confidence, and curiosity that will serve them as they approach adolescence.
Our Mission
Our primary mission is to provide first-rate after school programming by creating joyful, engaging spaces where children can unwind after a long day in the classroom.
However, we also recognize the professional challenges, busy schedules, and obstacles that families face today. The parents and guardians who entrust us with their children deserve quality caregivers they can count on to ensure the safety and well-being of their loved ones. Our team is deeply committed to fulfilling that responsibility. We encourage frequent communication, respond to feedback, and adhere to all safety protocol measures. Family participation and involvement is key to our mission.

Shalom After School is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and operates in full compliance with state regulations and safety standards.
Our program is also proudly supported by grant funding from the Jewish After School Accelerator (JASA), which enables us to strengthen program quality, expand enrichment opportunities, and ensure access for families in our community.
